Social media blog Mashable first reported the story that less than a day after the Lionel Messi official Facebook page went live, the Argentinean soccer star garnered 6.9 million Facebook fanss, or �likes.� At 1:16AM PST, Lionel Messi posted a Spanish greeting to fans with the translation: �Hola! Welcome to everyone. Thank you very much for the great number of messages that I have received. I am so excited! From now on we will be more closely connected through Facebook.�

By now, the Lionel Messi fan page has grown to include photos, video, links to favorite causes like UNICEF and the Leo Messi Foundation, and an inspirational biography. �No matter the titles, trophies and honors,� says Messi, �I will always be the boy who grew up in Rosario, Santa F�, Argentina.
